Welcome, friends and family of LABDA!
The Louisiana Belly Dance Association Is bringing its first EVENT EVER to the Louisiana Belly dance community with a workshop and a Hafla all on the same day. LABDA is elated to have Obsidia Peacock bring her unique style and talent as a Dark Fusion Dancer and roll it out in a workshop designed for all skill levels of belly dancers.
This premiere event will take place in Lafayette, LA on Saturday, July 17th. We’ll take off with a Low and Slow Choreography workshop at Oasis Belly Dance Studio from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM, and get a chance to perform with Obsidia that evening at the Blue Moon Saloon hafla at 7:00 PM!
Haven’t had the privilege of meeting Obsidia Peacock yet?
“Obsidia has been studying dance the majority of her life. She has trained in multiple disciplines, from pointe to modern, and has been belly dancing for over 15 years. She is influenced by those she has studied extensively with: Zoe Jakes, Mardi Love, Rachel Brice, and most importantly, her mentor, Ariellah. Coming out of ‘retirement’ (because she simply cannot stay away from her passion for belly dance), she is excited to once again share her unique voice of fusion belly dance–dark fusion with a feel of vintage, early 20th-century dance. Obsidia also researches, writes, and lectures about the history of Orientalism in early 20th-century American dance.”
You can also find her on Instagram and Facebook. Let her know how excited you are!
And if you’re pumped up for the workshop…
“Ready to learn choreography full of slow, ooey-gooey goodness? Throw in a bit of subtle percussive statements, and you have the recipe for a subtle, yet dramatic, performance. Get ready for lots of fluid arm patterns, turns as slow as molasses, and taxeems and mayas for days! As a bonus, participants will have the opportunity to perform this choreography with me! Ready to languish in the quiet power of slink? This is your chance!” – Obsidia Peacock
Grab your hip scarves and coin belts–this is going to be a hafla you won’t want to miss! Tickets for the workshop can be purchased from our website for both events. Please note that each event has its own ticket. Participation in the workshop is $50.00, and entrance into the hafla is $5.00.
We look forward to shimmying with you, habibis!
